Nutritional Supplements for Hair Loss

There is no double blinded placebo controlled peer reviewed studies that support their use for hair loss as a sole treatment for male and female pattern hair loss.  However, we know a variety of medical conditions, diets, and medications can impact our hair growth.  Some examples include- rapid weight loss, thyroid disease, and various medications.  For patients in these groups a nutritional supplement may be helpful.

If you are losing your hair see yoru dermatologist to determine the cause.  Once determined, treatment options will be reviewed.  For the majority of patients, nutritional supplements will not be needed, but for some patients they play a role in addition to other therapies such as topical/oral minoxidil, oral/topical finasteride, PRP, LLLT, or hair transplant surgery.
